Bright Little Minds Educational Program

We are a bilingual kindergarten where we teach English from the beginning and promote the love of learning.

Our kindergarten adopted the curriculum of the Finnish educational model, prepared and developed by the University of Helsinki, this means that we acquired the program and adapted the same activities, routines and daily practices of this pedagogy with our Chilean reality, and in return leaving its essence. Our founder and Director, Javiera Arriarán Álvarez, is part of the accredited teachers of this pedagogy.

In this sense, we believe that each child is seen as a complete and unique being, with unlimited potential to learn and develop in harmony with their environment.

What is the Finnish Educational Model Based on?

Studies show that play is vital for children to develop a wide variety of skills, such as problem solving, being creative, working as a team and understanding emotions. It also helps their physical development, improving coordination and muscle strength. And most importantly, games helps them think critically while making decisions and adapting to different situations. In our kindergarten, we offer a conducive and appropriate space so that the children can develop these skills, contributing and accompanying them in this stage of growth.

We focus on understanding the world from children’s perspective. We recognize the importance of each stage of childhood for their comprehensive development, which is why we strive to understand their thoughts, emotions and needs. This allows us to adapt our educational practices to provide you with the best possible support. One way we do this is through participatory meetings, where children can express their opinions and make decisions on matters that directly affect them, such as field trips and classroom rules. This gives them a sense of control and strengthens their abilities to collaborate and engage with others. By involving children in decision-making, we teach them important life skills and show them that their ideas are valued, giving them a sense of belonging and empowerment.

In this approach, we value each child as a unique individual, with their own ideas, thoughts and needs. We are dedicated to caring for their well-being comprehensively, addressing both their physical and emotional needs, in addition to their educational requirements. We recognize the importance of cultivating an environment where every child feels understood, supported and valued on their path to growth and learning.

In such a way that each child can develop a solid base of interpersonal and emotional skills that allow them to face challenges and relate positively to the world around them.

We believe in recognizing each child as a whole person and work to raise children who are socially, emotionally and academically secure and capable.

We do this by creating an individual plan for each child who attends our learning center, and serves as a dialogue between our teachers and parents about how we can work together to help the child recognize their full potential, showcasing their experiences, interests, and development of the children.

We train our teachers to be playful, curious, critical and respectful in their work.

Our team strives to always learn, cooperate and adapt to changing situations and teach children to do the same.

Using the Finnish model toolkit adopted by our kindergarten, teachers learn to plan their own activities, document results, and evaluate children’s learning and development to further improve their work as professionals.

Learning happens everywhere and all the time.

We believe that children’s learning is not limited to specific activities or in the classroom. Every situation and moment is an opportunity to learn something new.

We encourage children to persevere and try again because this builds resilience and determination, which are key skills in lifelong learners.

We remind them that moments of failure usually teach us much more than moments of success and we see it as learning.

Being able to connect different fields of knowledge and skills is the foundation for personal growth, study, work and civic engagement, now and in the future.

Our curriculum covers a wide variety of learning areas so that children acquire many different skills and abilities that will contribute to their transversal competence.

Learning is a social experience. Children’s relationships shape the way they see the world and affect all areas of their learning and social-emotional development.

Therefore, we promote interactions where children learn the social-emotional skills necessary to express themselves and interact effectively with others in all types of situations.

We believe in a better world, where all aspects of education must involve practices that are lasting and care for our community.

In our kindergarten, children practice empathy towards others and nature in order to build lasting relationships.

We think that a trusting, continuous and positive relationship between teachers and families is essential. This has a significant long-term effect on a child’s learning journey and their future school experience.

Parents, have the first and most powerful influence on their children’s learning, development, health and well-being.

Our teachers greatly value parents’ opinions and observations about their children’s development, learning stages, and personality.

In our kindergarten, we offer a space with fluid communication between us and the parents in order to achieve the best from each child.

What is Finnish Pedagogy?

The Finnish education system has been rigorously evaluated over decades, showing exceptional learning results. It combines the current best practices and philosophies with a continuous focus on development to meet the highest standards in education.

In Finland, early childhood education is seen as a lifelong process, where learning is encouraged through children’s natural curiosity and desire to explore. Free play is essential at this stage, allowing children to develop physical, emotional, social and intellectual skills naturally.

The Finnish educational philosophy recognizes the right of every child to play and learn in a playful way, providing an environment where they can be heard and participate in decision-making. In addition, respect for life and sustainability is promoted, teaching children to take care of themselves, others and the environment in which they live.

This holistic vision of Finnish early education emphasizes the importance of play, community and respect, laying the foundation for children’s comprehensive and sustainable development.
